On a Mission to Fight Hunger

This winter, Home Clean Heroes is more than just a team of grime-fighters, they’re Heroes Fighting Hunger! Heroes Fighting Hunger seeks to fight hunger in the Hampton Roads area by partnering with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, and they need your help! Home Clean Heroes is asking that customers who are interested in helping with this cause leave canned goods out on the kitchen counter for the team to pick up on their next scheduled cleaning service date. Be sure to leave us a note indicating your donation so we don’t confuse it with that week’s grocery haul! Once your house is tidied up, our Heroes will take the goods to the donation box at the office.

When is the food drive happening?

The Heroes will be collecting grocery store gift cards, canned goods and other non-perishable items from November 15th through the end of the year, and are aiming to achieve a goal of 250 non-perishable food items. In January, the Home Clean Heroes team will drop off the canned goods at the food bank to replenish the shelves from the holidays, to then be given to families in need in the local community.

Why Your Involvement Matters

Although the primary focus of Home Clean Heroes is giving the gift of clean homes, they also care about other important local needs in their area. It’s in the months following the holidays that food banks have the biggest need. While it’s a wonderful act of kindness to donate during Thanksgiving and Christmas, people often forget that those in need are still struggling to get a warm meal on the table in the remaining winter months. Heroes Fighting Hunger provides an opportunity for those meals to continue through the winter.

Tips on Donating to the Food Bank

While this can be a great opportunity to clean out your pantry and get rid of that jar of olives or the can of green beans you’ve forgotten you bought, it’s important to remember these quick and easy tips when choosing your items to donate:

  • Make sure the items are non-perishable

  • Food containers should be non-breakable to avoid accidents

  • Nutrition labels should always be intact

  • Double check expiration dates (items can be up to 6 months past printed date on the item)

How You Can Help Throughout the Year

Although Heroes Fighting Hunger ends December 31st, if hunger is an issue you would like to continue fighting next year, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Here are a few ways to get started:

  • Make a financial contribution. For every $10 donated, the Foodbank can distribute up to $60 worth of groceries to families in need.

  • Make a food donation, whether through the Foodbank for by starting your own local food drive. You can also approach people in the food industry to donate unused food.

  • Volunteer! Donating time is just as important as delivering the food itself.

  • Help raise hunger awareness by becoming an advocate and educating people in the community on this issue.

Home Clean Heroes is excited to support such a great cause and is ready to partner with customers to help fight hunger in the Hampton Roads area! Still have questions about how you can help? Visit our Heroes Fighting Hunger page for more information.
