GET TO KNOW RITA BETTER:
What is the most exciting thing you've ever done or experienced?
I've been fortunate enough to microlight over Victoria Falls in Zambia, watch a lion hunt its prey in Madikwe, dance the tango in Argentina, and make wine in France. But for me, the most thrilling experience was living in Italy. I spent four months there during a transitional period in my life, taught English in a small coastal town in Tuscany, and immersed myself in their culture, food, and travel. Nothing has ever topped that experience. Yet.
What's the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
My cousins and I inherited land from our grandfather in the Dominican Republic, and with enough money, I would buy them out or rent their shares and develop a retreat property, allowing us to host various experiences, from adventures on the beaches and in the mountains to relaxation and yoga by waterfalls.
What is something about you that most people don't know?
Thanks to a "fun experiment" to learn more about our ancestry through 23&Me, I discovered in 2022, a month after I joined Buzz, that my dad was not my biological father. Nor was he my older brother's. It was a secret that only my parents knew and promised to keep between themselves. My dad passed away in 2013, so the only person left to tell us the truth was my mother. Seeing that the science she never expected had finally caught up with her, she had to confess and tell my brother and me the truth. We were donor babies. It also turned out that he is my half-sibling, conceived from a different donor. Besides learning the truth about my parentage, I also found out I have eight more half-siblings, all from the same donor but raised by different parents as well. I now have relationships with three of them. So, while I try to keep such a secret and avoid sharing it on major platforms out of respect for all involved, those of you who were at Buzz when I joined unknowingly took part in that discovery journey because it was the work I was doing for us that kept my mind busy during those times when I needed a distraction. After so many years and memories (and now this extra bit of love from all of you), it only feels right to share this with you.
And for those wondering, yes, I have found my donor.
Thank you for all you do Rita!
