Our Employee of the Month is a True Bright Spot

Congratulations to our Employee of the Month, Gordy Johnson! Gordy joined the Buzz Franchise Brands family in September of 2022, and has played a pivotal role in supporting the local Virginia Beach-Norfolk operation for both Wonderly Lights and Pool Scouts.

Gordy is the Light of our Lives

Gordy is originally from Marysville, Ohio, but being from a military family, ended up moving to Hampton Roads in the early/mid 2000’s. After high school, Gordy joined the Navy himself, followed by 14 years in restaurant operations. This background provided him a solid skill set for his operational role at Buzz Franchise Brands. Outside of work, Gordy enjoys hanging out with his wife and their son, watching The Ohio State Buckeyes year-round in all sports, and hitting golf balls on the links.

In his role as office manager, Gordy leads the local team for both Wonderly Lights and Pool Scouts to ensure that the technicians are well-trained and motivated to provide excellent holiday light installation and pool cleaning services. Gordy’s flexibility, patience, attention to detail, and adventurous attitude have helped him excel in all of his roles. Whether he’s in the office helping customers, guiding the technicians, or leading training sessions for employees and franchise owners, Gordy is truly a Jack of all Trades. He is also always willing to help. Even if it's an area out of his immediate expertise, we’ve quickly realized there’s nothing Gordy can’t do! He was recently ‘volun-told’ to model in a Wonderly Lights photo shoot due to his strong knowledge of the brand’s methods and techniques, and as you can see, he killed that too!

Gordy’s calm yet confident demeanor makes him a perfect teammate and a true pleasure to work with. He’s had to put on a few different hats for the very different set of skills and knowledge that Pool Scouts and Wonderly Lights require. He’s also had to lay the groundwork for balancing two complimentary seasonal brands to model for other franchise owners, which is quite an undertaking. Gordy was fully willing to jump in and roll up his sleeves, and has done an outstanding job modeling that balance.

He was tireless as he balanced customer inquiries, completed quotes, and directed his install teams even as he wrapped up the most successful Pool Scouts Local Ops year ever. What is something about you that most people don't know? I lived in Puerto Rico for four years.  

If given the chance, who would you like to be for a day? The President of the United States. So I can issue an executive order to abolish the Federal Income Tax.

What's the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery? I would buy 100 acres of land.
